On Saturday I drove out to Sacramento to watch my friend run the 1500 at the NCAA Division I Track & Field Championships. It was fun to watch him run and set the school record in the 1500 – big congrats to him on an excellent college running career and best of luck on a bright future in running!
After the track meet was over, I headed down to the Monterey Peninsula to visit my sister. I hit I-5 down the sweltering valley San Joaquin Valley and then watched the temperature fall 30 degrees as I drove over the foothills toward the ocean.
I had a delicious dinner at my sister’s house in Pacific Grove and then we went to watch some nice live music at a tea/coffee shop. I was all over the Peach Blossom White Tea (my all-time favorite!). On Sunday morning I got up and ran the cinder trails along the ocean. I ran further than I had run before and found another couple miles of amazing trail. The run was an absolute pleasure in perfect temperatures. After the run we had breakfast and then hit a wine tasting room in Monterey. The Pinot Noir was good as well as a dessert wine made from Olallie berry (a cross between a bunch of berries). We enjoyed the beautiful day and then had an excellent lunch.
It was great to get some fresh air and hang out with my sister and her husband in their beautiful Victorian-style home in Pacific Grove. I look forward to visiting again and visiting the State Parks along highway 1 in Big Sur. What a beautiful spot and big thanks to Talli and David for amazing hospitality!
We enjoyed having you! Look forward to seeing you again. Have a good week.
