Ticketing in Bars?

I read this article on msnbc.com about Texas ticketing people in bars for being drunk. The whole idea does not sound good for bar businesses in the lone star state. The law seems so arbitrary and subjective. Many people come to bars with designated drivers and just because one drinks a lot does not guarantee that person will do something stupid. In fact, for the vast majority of the time, people just have fun and get home safely. I have always felt that a primary purpose of bars is to drink and it seems counterintuitive to ticket people for public intoxication in a place where drinking is encouraged. It is inevitable that some people will get drunk. To run a “sting” operation (more like just show up at any decent bar) seems unfair and will just chill the fun at bars for everyone. I acknowledge, alcohol is responsible for many problems, but we tried prohibition and that obviously didn’t work. If this law is enforced strictly, people will find other ways to party. The law will not achieve its purpose and may even have a perverse effect; “underground” drinking would be completely unregulated. The incentives to drink responsibly should be bolstered instead by harsh penalties after you do something stupid or cause harm/damage. If there are continuous problems associated with a particular bar, law enforcement should crack down on the bartending at that particular location.

In other news, I finally got my rejection letter from the firm I interviewed at a couple weeks ago. No surprise. I still have a couple interviews and I am confident one of the them will be fruitful. One is a public interest position with the FTC in Seattle, and it sounds very promising.

A good workout at Arrillaga today featuring the bench. I worked up to 10 reps of 150 as usual and then lowered the weight to follow it with 12 reps of 135. I felt slightly tired today, mostly due to the timing of the workout in relation to meals. I still managed to do the routine with cable cross overs, flyes, and barbell for the biceps. I then ran on the treadmill for 36 minutes (5.25 miles).

I need to start editing my argument section for the appellate brief. It has got to be done sometime, I may as well start this evening!
