Today was the last class of my second year at Stanford Law. It’s amazing how fast it’s gone. I have only one year left and I will actually be a practicing lawyer. It’s still kind of a weird thought, but I’m beginning to see myself being successful in the “real world.” After all, Stanford is a sweet law school and I feel like it is preparing me well. I wouldn’t wouldn’t want to go to law school anywhere else.
Speaking of the value of law school, here is an amusing quote about the MBA (and how it’s not so valuable) from an article from CNN and Fortune:
“When Jack Welch gave a guest lecture at MIT’s Sloan School of Management in 2005, someone in the crowd asked, ‘What should we be learning in business school?’ Welch’s reply: ‘Just concentrate on networking. Everything else you need to know, you can learn on the job.’ Sloan’s dean, Richard Schmalensee, was stunned because ‘Jack was essentially saying a graduate business degree was a waste of time.'”
The Stanford Graduate School Business (GSB) and other top b-schools have definitely taken this advice seriously, restructuring their curriculum to focus on the “soft” skills and networking. Now, these kids come to school to sip wine and mingle (j/k they only do this part of the time 🙂
Exercise: I dropped the HAMMER on the Oak Creek loop this morning and felt excellent. I was really pumped before the ran even began. I also did some biceps and ab workout at Arrillaga in the afternoon.
