The most iconic image of the Big Sur coastline is McWay Falls in Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park. The accessibility couldn’t be any easier for the tourists. The paved overlook path is less than 0.25 miles from the parking making this a must-stop for the amateur and professional photographer alike. Interestingly, however, the beach below McWay Falls is relatively inaccessible and guarded by cliffs and steep slopes. You’ll definitely see the full array of camera equipment and tripods posted at various points of the overlook. Chances are somebody will be taking a (much)better photo than you with (much) better equipment. While my point-and-shoot is clearly no match, I took solace from the fact that my light camera set-up allowed me to capture scenes along 22 miles of the Cone Peak adventure run immediately preceding this visit to McWay Falls.
