Mindego Trail and Borel Hill Sunset

I walked the Mindego Trail in Russian Ridge Open Space Preserve a couple weeks ago. Mindego Hill was recently acquired by POST (Peninsula Open Space Trust), but remains closed to the public so I turned around at the gate on the Mindego Trail. It will be great to explore the beautiful lands of Mindego Hill when it is transferred to the Midpenninsula Regional Open Space District. In the meantime, the hike to the gate is still a worthy objective with grand views, grassland, and nice douglas fir forest. Here are some photos from the trip, including a stunning sunset seen from Borel Hill. An out-and-back from Vista Point to the Mindego Hill gate is 6 miles, but I recommend taking the Ancient Oaks Trail and ascending Borel Hill on the return trip which adds 0.8 miles (6.8 miles total).
