Julia Pfieffer Burns State Park is known for the iconic McWay Falls, which is the epitome of Big Sur promotional travel material. A short path leads to this extremely photogenic waterfall that is walked by nearly every traveler through Big Sur. This attraction is heaven for tripods and large SLRs! Here is a photo of my favorite shot of the post-sunset glow and some shots I took on a drive in the morning.
Also within Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park is the Ewoldsen Trail which heads into the redwood-filled McWay Canyon and up a ridge to coastal views. Unfortunately, this trail remains closed due to the fires from alst summer. Hopefully the trail will be reopened soon so I can check it out on my next visit to Big Sur.
The final area of interest in Julia Pfieffer Burns is the Partington Cove walk a couple miles north of McWay Falls. Here is a rocky cove used as a loading point for tanbark at the turn of the nineteenth century that is reached via a 60 foot wooden tunnel. There is also a beach covered in a smooth boulders.
