Today I hiked up Tiger Mountain from the Highline Parking lot on the Tradition Plateau. It took about 40 minutes to get on top of West Tiger One. I then continued on to West Tiger 2 and looped back to West Tiger One. At the bottom, I walked around Tradition Lake to up the mileage count a little. It was starting to rain so I was a little constrained – I would have explored more of the trails up there if it was clear. I remember Tiger Mountain being so much more than a 40 minute jaunt when I was young. I guess the perspective has changed!
I was a little worried that running shoes would be inadequate, but surprisingly, the trails were in great shape with very little mud. Moreover, trail crews have been doing a lot of work to improve the trail surface and clear out blow downs from the epic windstorm in December (which, by the way, is being named the Hanukkah eve windstorm). Now the worst part of the whole thing is the short stretch of dirt road to get to the parking lot, which is littered in large potholes. If the weather cooperates, I hope to go on another hike/run tomorrow.
