Pescadero County Park

Home of some of the finest single tracks on the Peninsula, it’s always a treat to visit Pescadero County Park. One of the objectives this time was to photograph the falls at Jones Gulch. I have run through the lush Jones Gulch several times but have never stopped. I knew there was a small waterfall near the bridge, but the picturesque falls I found far exceeded my expectations. From the bridge I scrambled down mossy, wet rock to a small viewing area where I captured some great photographs of the delicate falls. The lighting was poor so I had to take many photos and be extra calm to get a clear shot with my point-and-shoot digital camera, but I am happy with the result!

As usual, the redwoods were gorgeous and the single track was delightful. I also photographed the immense redwood beside the Tarwater Trail. This stately tree is so big that it cannot be captured in a single photograph. The girth at its base is huge, but most impressive is the “arms” of the tree that separate abruptly about halfway up but then resume growing straight into the sky.
